Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc is a work by composer Vítor Rua for digital support, video, two electric guitars and performance dedicated to performers Luís Miguel Leite and José Teixeira. With a duration of 40 minutes, it thrives on experimentation and improvisation with an innovative language and the use of unconventional techniques, characteristic of most of the composer's works. Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc, describes the fallacy of assuming that because something happens to something, that this something was caused by the other something. For obvious reasons, this false logic is popular in socio-political discourse, such as: Most people addicted to heroin started with marijuana. True, but even more so, they started with breast milk. It was premiered in July 2020 by the dedicatees, young ambassadors of contemporary music written for guitar in Portugal. The work was published by the performers in 2021. They offer the listener different experiences from the edited recording in the live performance: you can't play this music the same way twice.
